FAQs

How do Dog Rocks work?

Dog Rocks are a solid, stable rock, so they don’t break down or release particles into your pet’s water. Instead, their micro-porous structure acts like a natural filter. When placed in water, Dog Rocks help remove nitrates, ammonia, and other trace elements, giving your dog cleaner water and reducing the amount of nitrates in their diet. This lowers the levels passed out in waste, which is what causes lawn burn. Dogs naturally produce nitrates from the protein in their diet, but the difference between a healthy level that can benefit grass and an overload that kills grass is very small. Dog Rocks help keep that balance in check.

Can I use Dog Rocks with a pet fountain?

Yes. Many customers successfully use Dog Rocks with pet water fountains, since the water is simply recirculated. Just make sure the water has been in contact with the rocks for 8–10 hours before your pet drinks it.

Where do Dog Rocks come from?

Dog Rocks come from Australia, where tests are run regularly to make sure the supply stays consistent year after year. The source is native and unique to one specific area. Despite investing tens of thousands of dollars and working with top geologists worldwide, we haven’t been able to find another source.

Will Dog Rocks harm my dog’s health?

Dog Rocks are 100% natural and won’t affect your dog’s normal balance, so they’re completely safe. Just be sure to follow the directions for use.

Why do I need to change my Dog Rocks every 2 months?

Dog Rocks act like a natural filter. After a certain period, they reach their saturation point and can’t absorb any more impurities.

How long do Dog Rocks take to work?

Dog Rocks start working in the water within 8–10 hours. From that point on, no new lawn burn patches should appear - though they won’t repair existing spots. With proper lawn care, you should see noticeable improvements within about 5 weeks. The rocks themselves won’t change in appearance while they’re working.

My dog likes to eat rocks and stones, can I still use Dog Rocks?

Yes, no problem. Just place your Dog Rocks in a jug or pitcher of water, then pour from there into your pet’s bowl.

Will my dead lawn come back to life by using Dog Rocks?

Dog Rocks help prevent those yellow burn patches on your lawn, but they can’t revive grass that’s already dead. With proper lawn care and consistent use, you should start to see a noticeable difference within 3 to 5 weeks.

My Dog and cat share the same water bowl, is this ok?

Yes, Dog Rocks are safe for cats as well as dogs and other household pets. They’re 100% natural, with no side effects and no impact on your pet’s normal pH balance. Studies and customer experience confirm their safety across all breeds. However, we don’t market Dog Rocks specifically for cats, since it’s difficult to make sure they only drink from the bowl with the rocks. Please note, Dog Rocks do not reduce litter box odor.

Are Dog Rocks necessary when my dog is away from home?

For best results, make sure your dog always drinks water that has been filtered through the rocks. If your dog tends to drink from puddles on walks, try bringing along Dog Rock water instead.

Can I still clean my dog’s water bowl and replace the water?

Yes, you can change the water as normal. Try to refresh it every couple of days and top it up at night after your dog’s last drink. This helps the Dog Rocks stay in the water as long as possible for the best results.

Why are Dog Rocks only found in Australia?

Igneous rocks are found all over the world, but their makeup isn’t always consistent. The speed at which the rock cools after a volcanic eruption changes its internal structure. We’re continually testing samples from different regions to find alternative sources that could help reduce shipping and lower our carbon footprint. So far, we haven’t found a match - but stay tuned!

Are Dog Rocks suitable for puppies?

Yes. Dog Rocks are safe for dogs of all ages. They’re 100% natural and won’t affect your dog’s normal drinking or bathroom habits, so they won’t cause any harm.
